How To Make Smoked Ham

Wellington - A declaration of love

It's today, I've been exactly 4 months in Wellington, clearly the longest time I've spent in one place in New Zealand. But my time here draws to a close. As I have previously mentioned here on the blog, I quit the job at Star Mart now, and I now only work one more day. Then it's off to the South Island, with the little that I Planaenderung rueberfahre not as was first thought the ferry to Picton and spend some time in Nelson. Instead, I have now booked a cheap flight and on 1 October with Carrie together fly to Christchurch and roll up the South Island from the center. Have always before even the great round to make the South Island and I think sometimes that it is in a circle so no matter where I begin. Especially as I had then the advantage that I can still hang on my Carrie "as a babbertes Guzl" and so I already know I'm good company and fun, no matter where I am now because verschlaegt exactly.

one hand I'm glad that now it goes on, a less steady and regular life again will include more adventure. But on the other hand, I know already that I will certainly miss Wellington somehow. Wellington is simply a crazy, exciting city and I have the last few months here wohlgefuehlt really. Therefore, it is now, just before his departure, nor the time to an official blog entry about this city in which I would like to convince the world in general the limited circle of my readers here of the qualities of Wellington. It follows, therefore, at this point

Wellington - A declaration of love

For those who do not know, here are some basic facts about Wellington .

Wellington is the capital of New Zealand (Auckland not what many people actually find this is the biggest city after all), and therefore also the seat of government. (It is the southernmost capital in the world, a fact the Kiwis love notes, simply because they adorn yourself with superlatives.)

Wellington is also New Zealand's cultural capital, with a variety of museums, galleries, theaters and art festivals. (Currently runs as the World of Wearable Art Show, as even a few pictures of the costumes range to one an impression of the vibrancy and color splendor to give this show.)

We live in total in the "Greater Wellington region about 460 000 people in the city's own in about two hundred thousandth From these figures one can ever get a clue about how relatively cozy it's like in this capital city.

But now everything is just boring facts that explain only in part can help because why Wellington is now just as great.

For me, there are many individual and sometimes rather small things that make up the great work of art Wellington.

came here when I came here it was first of all the architecture that has come to my (predominantly so because the rest of the cities of the North Island, do I have visited so far, so no interesting or even close to little nice architecture had to offer). In the central area of the city, almost all houses something individual in themselves, especially the "older" building I find a certain chic of me (I even admittedly so in general no idea of architecture have) anything to the America of the '30s, or at least as an always in the films will be shown, recalls. To see this you only have unfortunately always even aware of the Lift your head and look at the other side of the road, because unfortunately the Kiwis (as so many nations) have to look in the habit of their streets with storefronts everywhere the same, and so come to mind First, the neon signs everywhere, always on. But a level above it, is actually to discover something better when looking up only once.

Then the whole atmosphere of a port city - something I know as Bavarian Landmaedel just not easy. The city stretches along the bay, almost none of the houses is further away than 3 miles from the sea. Our hostel is, for example, not even a mile from the harbor. It's kinda just a cool feeling to know, hey, if today's nice weather, we can just put an hour to the sea.

What I have at the next point would be: the Wellington weather. I've spent my winter here - the wettest winter, Wellington has seen for decades, as I was told several times already. I really had a lot of rain and more wind, for the Wellington is so well known. But I must say you also learn to love this weather at some point. After 2 attempts have been detected later than that it is useless, an umbrella is rumzutragen with it anyway because the wind turns over / davonblaest. And that wraps it is very good in his rain jacket and trudge so after home / to work, the part of the path that is executed on shop fronts over anyway rethought. The wind, I see now as personal challenger, one always blows against particularly strong when it goes uphill (which is slightly in Wellington times the case). With such a formidable opponent you have to talk easily and so I have several times a "More you do not have to offer?" slipped out - which is usually answered with a particularly strong gust of wind.

What I otherwise much like how small the town is still works. Of the almost 200,000 inhabitants of the city core, you get not much, but rather is all it is wish you could in a pleasant walking distance: the cult Cuba Street for shopping, look at the Lambton Quay to the expensive things, the port and the town beach Oriental Bay, the entertainment center Courtnay Place, the Botanical Gardens to name a few. Everything is it clearly influenced the other. Only by then one of the many times Hills / slopes / mountain climbs up the city, we see: Oh, this is still a whole city hidden! And behind every mountain, and I have discovered in this way already 4 extensions of Wellington and I am not exaggerated further back marching.

And how can you love a city not that many have of what I call a random way. You go into a small side street and then there is ne statue, or is there a top, or is there a 3m large umbrella, or flies as a bullet.

Constantly you can discover something new and that makes every walk is an experience. The Bucket Fountain in the Cuba Street, for example, is just a cult, or the whole site of the Civic Centre.

What has taken me from the beginning, of course, also for this city, the coffee culture. On every corner there are at least a small cafe that invites you to linger, and the waiter Barrista really are all nice, and be fast on the time a Kiwi typical small talk. And everywhere, everywhere really where I was so far has been, since only first-class coffee is served, usually nicknamed "turned on" with the Farnmuster in the foam. I'm in heaven.

But what makes Wellington most of all are its people. I have a feeling that all just a little piece are more relaxed and friendlier than I'm used otherwise. (Okay, maybe this is for all of New Zealand and I can experience it only here in Wellington last really at leisure).

My job was for my beloved social studies, so a huge advantage, because "my" Star Mart just around the corner from the Cuba Street is the trendy cult-quarter of Wellington, where the alternative boutiques, cafes, club and other shops have settled. Makes great fun, there are just too flannieren along and people-watching.

How can you not love a city to live in so many different characters and none is particularly marginalized? The most abstruse hairstyles and clothes run the road long, strange behavior at all corners and no one responded somehow surprising or even negatively to it. A few days ago, for example, was a bunch of amazing other of about 10 Teenagermaedels, all still in school uniform with Karoroecken and black blouse, and pulled each with ner McDonalds bag over his face - and has none of the passers-by more than just an eyebrow raised, if at all.

Or the homeless, the day in, day out only wrapped in his blanket and with his speaking can sit in front of the burger king on Courtenay Place, and now has something like mascot status. In the student magazine he was recently the Award for "Best Wellington Character" award. Also with me he was buying a couple of times in the shop to Peanut Butter, my colleague came in the ne half a minute later, said the only way "that Blanket Man What? Ah, shame I missed him! He's such a cool guy "- When did you last say something about NEN homeless at home?

I could on this list for a long time on writing and list the many little things that I here great / find fascinating / adorable - the Te Papa Museum, where you can really spend days. The library in which I have been so wohlgefuehlt, I would be drafted liked to. The village-like feel - constantly meet someone on the street that is known somewhere. And so much more. But the overall experience I'll Wellington can not be entirely fair, so I can only recommend that it somehow gets to even the series for some time to come to New Zealand or Australia to schedule necessarily a few days or even weeks for Wellington.

Symptoms Of Testical Cyst

What the world today so moved - Kiwi Style

As all people know is the New Zealand A **** the world and the rest of the world population is also in large part on the selfsame over (or have someone with you noticed how incredibly successful ((for their circumstances)) the Kiwis This year at the Olympic Games were? Na which).

Conversely, it pretty much the same, what I notice the special thing to read when I try again, here the local paper. The Dominion Post, Wellington daily newspaper, after all, actually second-largest daily newspaper in the country. As you hit then an interested reader, the department "World News" on, hoping a little bit about the general situation to learn outside of these two islands and very beautiful, and what you find? Just 2 sides with so-called "World News". About 15% of the pages are again allocated to advertising. The remaining space allowed to share then a small handful of political news with many other articles dealing with such important things, like that Michael Jackson is indeed 50 now, Madonna still looks good, what about the elections in the U.S. (ie obs yet anyone would be interested), and that a cat has found back in England after 9 years to their owners. (Yes, the article really gabs.)
"happy world" I think I always will, "so nothing bad can .'s On his "

This morning I had then for the first time an article about Germany found in the newspaper - and I found so charming with what our nation is finally manages to get in Neuss Eland in the newspaper that I like this the same time must report on this blog.
title was. "Two liters of beer okay to the bar then the article had any content that our esteemed Prime Minister Guenther Beckstein (" the conservative premier of the southern state ") is voiced concerning the upcoming Oktoberfest is that it is okay with a mass ("beer on the set is served in steins call a" Mass " holding one liter of beer "), auto closing, with two, if you were encouraging hard for a long time, and that other politicians and physicians were slightly peeved because now (literally" has them head-scratching ").

I found just wonderful! So refreshing and stereotypical mad earth-shattering. :-)
must when coming home the same even see if the newspaper still lying around - I would cut out the article to pick up!

Flaky Patches Spreading Dogs Back

daily updates

Dear Nicht-Leser/liebe the reader here and still not working for me

detectors are now once again gone into the country two weeks and I think it's time for a new journal - although not much earth-shattering happened in my life is. But well, it does actually never, because of that ...

first, but somewhat important message: I have now officially submitted my resignation at Star Mart and have to work now for 2 weeks.
Three weeks ago, even the wars that I was not sure if I even want to terminate or not and then what is ... Now I'm just still glad that I "have done. I do not still to be precisely what it and what I'm on the South Island because want to start as accurate, but I'm sick at least the work at the Star Mart now thoroughly to his neck out - predominantly because of Weil's just not enough work for all the employees there is always floating around. Stand around and desperate after half-way reasonable Search task is much harder than just a few hours durchzuschuften correctly.
work now I ja (free'm sure Monday / Tuesday) Saturday / Sunday, because it is particularly bad, because there are at all since there is no rush hour, would be in which even a few more customers - take more ma 15 minutes in which no one at all in the Laden is.

also piling up the sign that I also need to move away from Wellington. I like the city itself I still love the good, a horny place to live (the weather is better now!), but I note it on the people in the hostel, that I should move on too.
long time, it was a solid core of long term stay on the World Wide Backpackers, people who sometimes already be reside months since, the go away now, and eventually all. :-( I would not even say that they are all good friends who go there. But stop but people you already know longer can maintain that it is just about everyday and not only the permanent backpacker standard -conversation ("Hi, what is your name, where you from, how long you stay, where have you been, how's it there, where you going yet, I was already in and still want to ...") .

And what is especially bad. our giggling mob (the four girls from Room 10) breaks up and Sandra (our Maaffin) is already away last Sunday morning, we have them still together and taken to the airport. sie mit einer fuer den giggling mob typischen Mischung aus Gelaechter-Traenen-Kaffee-Schokokuchen-Geknuddel-und-Gekicher verabschiedet.

Ist schon ausgemacht, dass wir sie da mal besuchen must, to a nice dinner and a Dr Who marathon night. But to whom shall I now at night, "Nos da i ti" say (one of the few Welsh expressions that I can remember it)? And who asks me this crazy accent sweet if she was still "a Gummibaehhrschhen" have?

At least Carrie is retained even longer than I first thought. Which can be softened by cooking in their work (with a steak, some people are so easy to bait!) Still work to two weeks longer before abseiling to the South Island. ((Not that they would do it all over to get rid of me then, I "Bappert Gutzi" will you follow with certainty in the short or long, where they may hide * g *)

Other things from my everyday life:
Yesterday was big rugby match: the New Zealand All Blacks against the mortal enemy, the Australia Wallabies in the final (or whatever it may be called here) of the Tri-Nations Cup and the Bledisloe Cup to (which will be played between NZ and AUS).
Carrie and I are looking to Mike ("their" kiwi) and Adrian went to the NEN pub - it was very genial mood, at the very beginning, the traditional Haka. (I still try to ensure that football could do something well, just for the drama and the fun factor). And then of course during the Game in which even I have heard that it was particularly exciting and fiercely fought over. New Zealand has won Thank God and so was last night and today all right with the world.

And because I have the degree earwig in my head, here is a little audition for you at home: Newton Faulkner - Dream Catch Me "which they play constantly in the Radion (and it is one of the few songs where I I am still when it comes). Do not know if what was received from the already in Germany. Can you hear just pure.

Oh, and just because we are in the process and so many of you are worn down to the funny commercials Kiwi are: the spot is a real cult here; Make as Kiwis advertising for chocolate. No I do not understand it wirlich, but it's still funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnzFRV1LwIo

So, this reaching for today then I think again. As viewed from
reports, perhaps one of you also once again someone who is not related to me, with me?
